Open letter to Chrysler

Fellow Cherokee owners,
I'm writing the following letter to Chrysler. Any questions/comments/suggestions? Here it is:

Dear Chrysler,
Please drop the Jeep Liberty from the lineup, and bring back the Cherokee. It was a poor management decision to replace the Cherokee with an inferior model, and it's time to right the wrong.

Best Regards,
A long time Cherokee owner

X2.
Plus rumor has it Chrysler is dropping the Liberty, Patriot and Compass for 2012. Although looking at the 2011 Wrangler, I am afraid.
Oh if you do send it, make sure to add drop all vehicles that are unibody since they are inferior (ducks) :D

Now hold on a minute, nuttin wrong with a unitbody - mines gone more places than alot of jeeps on frames :flipoff::)
The wrangler is rumored to get some refreshing and a major modification, the rumor is that means possibly a diesel (but that's only speculation)
The 2013 Liberty will be a Fiat based SUV but you're right about patriot and compass, they will be replaced with a Fiat sourced small SUV :(

Sorry maybe the sarcasm didn't come through. Point I was making was that this letter is about 9 years late plus there are a ton of SAS jobs out there on the KJ (example here (haven't seen any for the KK but wouldn't surprise me).

Also regarding the new wranglers, the first vehicle to get the Diesel from what I heard was the GC and there is no plan on introducing in the JK for at least 2 years (iow not at least until after 2012). There have been some pictures of the 4 door sahara floating around and it looks even more cushy (think H3 with removable top). There is still hope for the Rubicon.

Don't hold your breath waiting for a diesel Wrangler. It is likely not to happen in North America due to the stringency of the emissions standards for diesels in the U.S. The Wrangler is a niche vehicle and can not take advantage of the economy of scale of the small truck market the way Ford, GM and Dodge do.

There will be a new engine for the Wrangler in 2012. If you are planning on buying new I would wait till then if you can. It will be a 3.7 V6 truck engine with better TQ numbers than the current 3.8. IIRC it will also be direct injected and as such will be more fuel efficient than the current engine.

Diesel engines will likely go away altogether in the next 5-10 years as they are phased out in lieu of the new compression ignited, direct injected gasoline engines that are coming. All the power and torque of the diesels with none of the stink, special fuel or emissions issues.

If Jeep produced the Cherokee today it would be a huge failure. It is not the vehicle that normal car buyers are looking for.

Besides, if you want a like new Cherokee go surf ebay. There are low mileage, rust free ones that are practically like new on there all the time.

Just saw a 3L diesel Grand cherokee today.

IIRC the diesel Grand died with the end of the production of the WK. The WK2 is not offered with a diesel engine.

Same thing with the diesel KJ. The KK has not been offered with the 3.0 CRD either.

Me too. The new interior really does not suit the JK at all. It has some details that are ok but the over all styling is way out there. I'm expecting bad things with the next major redesign.

All they had to do was make the same interior with plastics that didn't feel like dollar store plastic toys. I guess that was too hard for them.

Chris, look further for the reason of the diesel non existance. The Euro 4/5 norm (standart) is equal if not stricter than California standart and is covered by all european made diesel engines. The MB Blue Tech CRDI and the VW CRDI engines pass CA emision with flying colors. So IMO the reason is not the emisions.
As to the original topic: drtsoftware, dont waste your time, imagination, paper, ink, envelope, stamp etc. First, as it was said - you are litle bit late, just some 9 years. Second, the Cherokee as a dead branch of the evolution is there where it belongs - gone and forgotten.

What's next - letter to revive the Wilis or FJ40. I vote for FJ40.

I wouldn't bother either. Chrysler couldn't care less. They havn't even gotten back to me about a complaint i've made about Capital Dodge 2 months ago. But i wish they would bring back the cherokee, those are way better than the Libertys. Too bad they would screw it up.

Agreed, let the cherokee die a noble death. Bringing it back they would make it entirely out of plastic with independent suspension and tires the size of the spare the Cherokee originally came with.

Agreed, if they built it now they would just ruin it. With what Chrysler going to be putting out in the future it's best to stick with the older jeeps - or go buggy. :D
