Buying a welder

Well I'm starting to look around for a welder, specificly a MIG. I have a stick currently but its way too overpowered to weld on the sheetmetal that my Jeeps made of, or I should say its way too overpowered for ME to weld on the sheet metal lol. My stepfather managed to do it but I'd like to be able to do it.

I've been doing quite a bit of research online and the Hobart 140 seems to be pretty popular among the guys on Naxja aswell as Cherokee forum.

I was just wondering what you guys think...

Miller 180.
Upgraded to this from a 110v mig and would go back.
Flux core six, shield gas is the only way to go.

Know anywhere locally that has them at a decent price? Is it easy to use? I'm a novice afterall.

And does it run off a regular household outlet? I dont have a 220 volt line in my garage and its a rental for now so I cant be installing one. lol

Bought mine at Ottawa Valley Oxygen in Renfrew.
Get someone toshow you basics, practice a bit, you'll have it down in a coupe hours.
The 180 is advertised to do 1/2" in one pass, realistically more like 3/8 without beveling both pieces.
There is also an spool gun available for it to weld aluminum. Which is my next purchase.

Yeah I've got my step dad, he taught me to stick weld, and thats pretty good for the price range we're talking.

One thing to note - it'll be 220V only so you'll need to get a big ass extension to run it from the stove/dryer outlet. I was pricing them out recently and expect to be out about $1k for everything new. They do have an autoset option to take some of the guess work out of speed/amp settings. I'm hoping to pick one up next year (stupid Grainger deal being too good to be true). CTC has the 140 Lincoln on sale from time to time for a 120V option, and I'm pretty sure Adrian built most of his buggy with the Hobart 140. Food for thought.

I think the 220V issue alone will cause me to pick up the Hobart 140. I simply cant run an extension. lol.
