Is the Lockrite supposed to click when driving straight and not under load?

It stops clicking under load but as soon as i let off the gas it clicks again, i thought it was only supposed to click when turning and not underload....

I'm worried it may be damaged...

Thanks,
Mike

Call Lockrite. I had one that was skipping under load, so they told me my carrier was probably stretched and out of tolerance. I was "yeah right ". But they were correct. Post up their answer if they give you one.

I called them and they confirmed it's not supposed to click when not under load and going straight, he said to measure the tires for rolling measurement...

I will do that tonight!

Thanks!

This was my first tough - to check the tire size and pressure, basically this is what can cause it to ratchet.... but what do I know :)

i would say open it up and check to see the springs and pins are ok.
while your there why not spin the wheels with a buddy and see whats going on.

A cracked ring gear tooth or pinion tooth will also cause a clicking noise. Just something to look for when everything else checks ok.

I looked things over.

1. measured the tires and they checkout to being the same size.
2. air pressure is the same.
3. I drove it around slowly and then thought about front driveshaft u-joints.... i layed down under and i found some free play in the u-joint up by the front output shaft on the t-case... i think the clicking might come from there and it stops under load because the u-joint doens't have as much slack.

I'm going to pull the front DS this weekend and inspect/replace the u-joints

will update after that! thanks for your help guys, much appreciated.

X3 sometimes called angry sparrows when it gets really bad. Ignore it long enough the ball seizes and takes out your transfer case

Been reading the centering ball issue causes more of a squeak or squeal, right??

Mine is a clicking noise, kinda like a u-joint of a chain....

tonight im going to pull the front DS and i'll have a better look.

Mine was more of a squeak. Pulling the driveshaft should definitely isolate it. If still happening I would take the opportunity to pull the axle shafts next and look for some play. When was the last time you greased the ujoints or even had them out?

The front axle shaft u-joints are brand new.. the front DS u-joints could easily be 5-6 years old if not more!

Well guys I found the culprit.

The locker is fine and so are the tires. The front DS u-joint had a bit of play in it (swapped in a new one) and the bolts up by the front output shaft/front DS were a bit loose, that was probably the major cause of the clunk.

Thanks!
Mike
