So I got rid of the blazer :(... Body was getting really bad, and needed a lot of work.
So I bought this Heep.

1989 Jeep YJ 2.5 5 speed
D30/D35 4.1:1 gears open front, welded rear.
Previous owner swamped it at North Augusta and put a rod threw the oil pan.

I was given a block that wouldnt turn over as there was a lot of rust in 2 of the cylinders.
So I took a princess...

I got it going just in time for the last North Augusta :)
It worked fairly well, and very noticeable weight difference from the old Blazer.

I then had to replace the winch motor. Apparently there wasnt a good seal when the po swamped it.

Luckily one of my suppliers has motors for a good price that would work. Trailfx motors seem to be the same as the superwinch LP8500.

So now on the to do list for Spring Fever:
-Swap in the D30 & F8.8 from the blazer
-Get around to checking and replacing all fluids
-Possibly add hydro assist
-fix the frame in a few places
-new front bumper and tubing as I messed it all up
-figure out why its running lean

Why not get rid of the dana 30 and upgrade to a 44 while your at it?

As someone who already did that, would you not recommend he save the time and money and go straight to tons? I know I would in hindsight.

Running the setup I already have. Got my hands on a D60 from an old military K30. Got to get a 14bolt and some bigger tires, then swap that in next winter. I also have a lead on a few cheap d300's this spring. :)

And that D30 took a pounding on 35's in the blazer and survived the most part. This YJ being a lot lighter should make it easier on the D30.

If you do have a line on the 300s buy em, I am sure they could be an investment in parts in the future :)

Thats the plan! Thinking 4.8/5.3/6.0 (whatever I can get cheap), TH350, D300, and tons. Hopefully next winter I can get all that in.

Go TH400 if you can find one. If you find a line on another Chevy D60, let me know, although I'm already thinking steering 14B.

Will do! I jumped on this one cause it already has 4.56 gears.

I will always push tons, just ask JG. Just figured you could find a 44 on the cheap - it's going to cost you when that tiny ring and pinion blows up! If you've got plans to throw tons under it awesome!

x2 on skipping the TH350 - just go 400 and don't look back.

Ive seen some pretty nice TH350's. But ya, used to use the 400 in the derby cars. When I get the D300's ill look for a 400. When the time comes, ill be doing a lot more research and asking a lot of questions. Right now its all about cheap cheap using the crap I have.
That D30 has been really good to me in the heavy old blazer. Should be fine for a season in the yj.

Working on stripping the old Blazer axles right now. Been working on getting the car hauler and camper ready. So now that they are done, crunch time for the Heep. Also got to try get the new 5 pt harnesses in it :)

Got the axles from my blazer under the Heep now. What a difference! Now to put brakes on it so I can stop then it will be spring fever ready!
