I have a 2.5 out of a 95 YJ. I think it would work if you changed all the electronics from yours over. 200 bucks and you get harness computer and all.

I would consider Baja's engine as a viable option, he's asking a good price and I believe it has decent mileage as well but maybe he'll chime in to confirm. I just swapped a '94 YJ 2.5L into my '98 TJ and it was relatively easy. Here is a list of what needs to be swapped from your TJ's engine to the YJ's,

-Intake manifold (as a complete unit, with TB, fuel rail etc... good time to clean it)
-Both engine mount brackets
-Valve cover (if you feel the need, TJ's air box bolts to the valve cover, I left the YJ's cover on)
-*Coil
-*Cam shaft position sensor (thin plastic plate under the cap & rotor)
-*Oil pressure sending unit
-*Thermostat housing
-Power steeing pump bracket

That's all that I can recall, it may seem like a lot but it really isn't. The items marked with an * are there because their plugs are different.

If your Jeep is a manual, now would be a good time to change your clutch, for $200 it just makes sense.
The swap will take you the better part of a weekend. The only special tool you might need is a fuel line tool to remove the fuel line from the fuel rail. I used a couple picks and got it off.

Good luck in your quest...

X2. I can only add that this beats the price of any rebuild, with proper tools and organization will take between 6-8 hours (at least this longs it takes me). The line disconnect tool could be picked up at PA or CT (or borrowed from me); and in general it looks harder to swap the engine than actually is. If you have any Qs LMK.

The things is I don't have the knowledge or skill set to rip into an engine and swap it out..Or i would be all over Baja's engine.. it is priced right and everything....Bigdaddy....How much would you want to spend a week end doing this for me? I will be generous!

I would have to get back to you on that. Do you have access to a heated garage by chance? ;)

What findings gave you the notion you lost a cylinder? Did you do a compression test on your engine to be certain of your findings?

i do have access to a heated garage on Slack Rd until the end of the month....but I don't have the tools you would require... It is now at the garage and they did a compression test on friday and apperently zero compression..I asked that they do a leak down tomorrow to see if maybe just a valve.

My friend Alex got his replacement 2.5 from car-part.com a few years ago. IIRC it was ~$650 shipped from Calgary.

Well the problem is solved..Thanks for the info Bradley, I may still need a motor in the near future!!

The cylinder walls were fine, must have dropped off on the exhaust stroke!!
