Appraisal needed asap

We are trying to get Lynne's YJ on the road but the tools down at the licence office are now telling us that we need an appraisal to transfer the ownership since it's over 20yrs old. They didn't bother to tell us that when I bought the used vehicle info package, that would have been too obvious.

So the problem now is that I can't get temp plates to drive it anywhere as I'd planned for the safety & e-test. I don't know any apprisers and paying a tow truck to take it somewhere to then pay...

Are you friendly with any dealership's new or used? As far as I understand they are all qualified in that respect. I think they all charge some nominal fee, that is why it is good to know them. Where is your trailer? If not I am sure somebody can lend you one, I am kind of far away and going to Lingham next week but it is empty right now and you should probably be able to get an appraisal on the weekend, I have had some of them do it sight unseen, or at least bring pics.

I had the same guy Andrew used for his truck to do my FJ. He came right to me. Don't remember his name. I have his card somewhere, I will look for it unless Andrew pipes up before then...

Adrian: that name would be much appriciated.

Dwayne: We don't know any car sales people at all, the twit at MTO seemed supprised by this "everyone knows a car salesman" she said. Traded the trailer a year ago for the RV trailer.

Short of thowing a dart at the yellow pages, any name/number would be appriciated.

You can get a temp license without the appraisal. I did it with the Sami. It's called a "Special Permit" now (the old paper stick on the windshield temp's), as opposed to a "temp plate" now which is a real plate with a T sticker. Go in and ask for a "Special Permit" and you're good to go. I got mine at Westgate, they know what they are talking about there. I was in the same boat as you until I explained I still needed to drive it to the E-test and appraisal. She said, "Sure no problem, we can give you this." My appraisal guy is in Frankford area, that doesn't really help ya. LoL

You can also try Class A auto in Almonte - 256-0444. Randy mentioned that he would be able to do my CJ whenever I manage to drag it back there for a safety, so he might be able to help you out.

Terry is right, but you'll need to play the taxes on the truck when you get the T-plates.

Anything over 20 years, I've been told, does not have a "book value", so they need an appraisal to make sure that the government gets the appropriate value to tax. So yeah, another tax grab of sorts.

Yup, 20yrs and older needs appraisal, then tax is paid on that value. Apparently this regulation has been around quite a while but they don't bother to tell anyone until you try to register without it. Then the twit wouldn't give us one of those "special permits" that Terry mentioned 'cause it's been more than 6 days since we dated the ownership from Mike to try to do the transfer. And they wonder why so many people hate the system.

Ohhh, that's right. I had the same issue. She told me to go home and write a new one, I was back 20 minutes later. Lol

The 20 year rule is a tax grab but mostly because there was problems by a "few" that had very valuable classic cars, etc. and would put the value of say their restored 1971 'Cuda as $1000 lol. So we all get painted with the same brush and have to get appraisals, I did on the Cherokee 3 years ago. Though do you think the Government really deserves 8.....wait now it will be 13% on your $50000 classic vehicle.

START THE REVOLUTION NOW!!

No but seriously I would like to

The stupid thing about it is that now you just ask the appraiser to under value the car. He valued my FJ40 at $300 at my request LOL.. System is stupid.....

Consider me in the revolution :)

Loco

I'd wheel it
I had to do it for my Sami a couple of years ago. I just went to the local used car dealer and after a little chat he did one for me sight unseen. He wanted me to bring it by after but it was just because he was interested in seeing it, paperwork was already done at that point so too late if he changed his mind.

The other loop-hole to this is that if you transfer the ownership as an "Unfit" vehicle...
you don't need an appraisal, you just pay the taxes on whatever your receipt says.

Then get the safety/e-test done (By trailering or towing to the shop)
Go to the license office and change the ownership from "Unfit" to "Fit" when you have the paperwork in hand...

No Appraisal needed... - stupid system... :banghead:

Got the same guy that did Andrew's and Adrian's. Great Automobile Appraisal Service 836-8846. Came here for $90.
Went back to MTO, different person at the counter, never asked for the appriasal, paid $8 in tax. :pissed: :banghead:
System is definately FAWKED

Typed out a reply to this, don;t know where it went.

Anyway, the above situation is pretty retarded.

I'll keep this in mind if I'm ever asked to do this, and just go again the next day and see what happens.
