hmm after reading all the posts i don't think this club is for me. i'm obviously new to all this and i was under the impression that there were trails of all levels in the area. i watch youtube videos of touaregs with air suspensions doing insane stuff with normal tires and wheels, so i didn't think it was limited to the Carlingwood mall parking lot. i'm glad i made you all laugh.

Here is a list:
Dwyer Hill/Burntlands: Stock friendly (even Honda Civic friendly) mostly fields but a big mud hole. Big thing is be careful in Burntlands as it is a Nature Preserve. Stay on the trail and do not deviate. If the ministry shows up (and they have), there will be hell to pay...

Just curious...is there hell to pay for being on the trail itself, or only if you deviate from the path? Any info on how to get there from Kanata?

Are the actual access points for these trails "secret?" I just haven't seen anything posted on them, just general references to the area.

There's a picture of my car at the Carlingwood Mall parking lot last week for good measure!

Hell to pay for being off the trail.

To prevent over use and possible shutting down of trails, normally folks post up a meeting spot for trail runs (usually Zellers in Bells Corners, and some spot closer to the trail head) where everyone meets and has a chance to introduce themselves. If the locations were posted on the forum, anyone with web access could then find the trails and abuse them - it's our way of trying to keep some control over access.

To be honest, there are trails for you, but I'd be leery as hell of beating up a Toureg myself. I'd highly suggest you go out to the Safety run at Carp, get to know some folks in the club, and grab a seat for the trail run (if there is one) to see what a "mild" trail looks like, and see if it is something you're interested in.

And don't take the joking too personally - it's just some folks sense of humour.

lol as you having too much money for wasting on rims that belong on street and not trail :p

maybe with your stock rims without low profil but on those phat rims and low profil tire.. you would be better off giving them to someone who wants rims rather then trashing them lol

2Greys yeah, that what i dont want to ruin trails before im too low and can't make it everywhere

rather jump in with someone and have a fun day then ruin lots of days of fun for lots of people

Does anyone head into Carp or Burntlands on a weekday? Just an exploratory excursion for a newbie? I cannot make some of the weekend events, but I want to see what the Pinz can do.....in baby steps of course...

Dwyer Hill would be the closest for you and you could easily do it in your Pinz on a weekday.I have run pretty much all the trails listed that this club runs except one,not with the club but with friends and people I know who are locals to some of the trails.Only a few trails where I would say definate experience is needed, for the most part if you have a spoter and use common sense you wont have an issue.

Thanks. Now, when you say Dwyer Hill, are you talking upper or lower? I have been into the Marlborough Forest on my motorcycle and in the Pinzgauer, but they "close" the gates after May 15th.

Access to the trail is allowed. Basically as the Ministry said to us the last time, "do not deviate from the existing path".

Some do. I know last year Logan and I did Carp in an evening during the week. The one thing I like about Carp is it can be a quick outing. Most of the other trails take up a whole day. My job (especially last year) was usually 6 days a week and some were 7 so getting out was a lot more difficult. My trip to Lavant I had to try to be in touch with the Director. I was able to get a quick email out at the top of the hill.

If you don't mind some company the next time you go during the week, I would love to check it out.

More the merrier. It won't be happening until at least May some time to allow the ground to harden up a bit. Also one of my coworker's brother bought a new rubicon a while back, I told her I would take him out.

Hey harley613, no offense dude, I just couldn't resist to make fun of your question. You have a great vehicle there, I like it much and maybe some day when I grow up I'll get one. But IMHO it's just not the vehicle for offroad use the way I understand it. A friend of mine back in Europe spent a truck load of money (literally) in a V10TD Touareg trying to build a offroad vehicle. The end result was a unsatisfied owner, wasted money and ruined vehicle which he sold at the end for 1/4 of the price.

It is not that the club is not right for you... it is the vehicle that is not right for the club. Locally, we have two trails that I would take a Toureg on. Burntlands and Rock Coady. And both of those trails, you could literally take a honda civic down. Some folks in the club enjoy those trails, but the number of times we go on them are very limited. We did not run Burntlands last year, we have not done Rock Coady in three. Carp and the other trails that I would take most 4x4 vehicles on at a minimum require a front tow point. I do not know what a "normal tire" is, but if it is a street tire, it will not get you very far. YMMV depending on tire and driver skill.

Harley613 - If your serious about getting in the whole off-road thing, I would suggest a ride-a-long. Mitko might be a bit rough with you but his advise it dead on. After the ride-a-long, if you think it's something you want to do, start shopping for a Sami, Toyota or Jeep and leave the VW in the driveway.

Burntlands is near Pakenham. Not sure about Rock Coady
I think you are missing the point though. You have had a number of people who have suggested not doing it, there is a reason for it. They don't usually discourage people unless there is a good reason. (more often they are the devil on your shoulder encouraging and supporting you in getting you into trouble :D). Toureg and their ilk are designed for traversing a field for parking at the local horse show or when the city hasn't got around to plowing your roads. For the amount of money you are going to end up spending on getting it even capable of doing some of the less advanced trails you could pick up a beater jeep or suzuki and do as much if not more. You can polish a turd... (not saying the Tourag is a turd per se just in this situation it isn't the most fiscally wise choice in base vehicles for offroading with)
