A 3D printer is a great tool, I use them everyday, but to make anything strong enough or of a decent finish quality you need to spend $$$$. ShapeWays is a great option like Richard said. If you have the CAD know how and the internet, ShapeWays is by far the best option. They use lazer sintering printers, which make very tough products. The price is right and the wait time is basically nonexistent. You can even set your file up on their site and people can order and pay for it with a click. The only downside is the data you'd have to burn to up load, but they accept .STL files which are condensed and usually small.
Did I mention they give discounts for bulk orders. hahaha. Maybe an OVO store at ShapeWays?
On that note I have lots of experience in doing 3D work in CAD for 3D printing, I'd gladly lend a hand to any crazy ideas that people want to print. Before you ask no we can not print stuff at my work...
