Hey guys - something shorted in one of our circuits and the breaker switch moves freely (no resistance). I'm comfortable doing minor electrical stuff, but not at the panel.

Anyone here an electrician?

It isn't hard to change a breaker (no more than wiring a receptacle).
Turn off mainpower
Remove front of panel
pull old breaker
Do everything in reverse.

If you don't hear from me again, you'll know what happened. ;)

I just have too many jobs to do these days...and also kinda want to have a bit of a discussion on the status of our rats' nest/wiring situation. The house was built in '42 and has had a number of sketchy 'upgrades' over the years before we bought it.

Is it possible that whatever tripped the breaker is still tripped? That would explain the inability to reset. I'd trace that problem circuit and find the loose connection/shorted switch. Find all the affected outlets and fixtures, pull them one by one and inspect.

Maybe - thanks for the suggestion. But again, I have a long list of stuff to do and the electrical in this place doesn't look up to snuff in a general sense. I need more than just the breaker looked at.
