Need plating.. What thickness?

I have to repair a hole on the inside PS of my frame near where the rear upper CA mount used to be. What would be the suggested thickness?


Secondly, i have to make two lengths of plate to repair my skid mounts. I am going to remove all the rivnuts that are there, make some larger holes where they used to be to accomodate 1/2" nuts and then I will weld onto the bottom of the frame, these plates. - Will a holesaw get through the frame rail easily enough?
- What thickness of plate should i use?
- Does anyone know if Loucon will cut specific shapes and drill holes if requested?

If nothing mounts to the patch, use similar thickness to the original frame, likely 1/8" would be fine. If something significant mounts to the patch area, I'd bump up to 3/16"

Yes, not a problem as long as it's not a cheap pos holesaw. Be prepared to possibly hit internal webing in the frame.

Yes Loucon will cut anything but you will pay handsomly for the labour charges. If these are just patch plates/reinforcement anyone with a plasma could cut them. Check with Mike to see if he's got his CNC table runing yet. I've run 2" holesaw in my drill press without problems.

Considering where you live, have you ever tried Winchester Steel rather than Loucon? I always liked them better. 613-774-3320 they may answer the phone Quintan Products, same place

I stopped in at Loucon's this AM... I first went where they store it all.. I was asked to go over to the other building. He could help but it would'nt be till late next week... So, i went back over to the storage shop, found a piece of 3/16" that would meet the needs and while paying the guy there said he could at least make the straight cuts on the press right away, so i went ahead with that. I just need to drill out the bolt holes...

Yeah, when I go to Loucon I give a wave/nod to the guys and start rumagging through the scrap pile leaning against the walls behind the cash. Very rarely do I have to get "new steel". I've never been in the other building. Were you wearing a tie? Maybe that's why they sent you to the other building.
