Hello OVO,

Well, 2800 some odd miles later my wife and I have arrived and are somewhat settled in. I missed the last meeting at the cock n bull, but I just happen to have the 26th and 27th off (US Thanksgiving, I'm still on that schedule while telecommuting).

I believe that venue is the proper way to meet in person and be invited out on a run? Just show up and listen in for the people talking trucks?

I'm pretty stock at the moment, and with a tremendously long wheelbase with which I'm...

shocking

Yes well...it was time for a change. My wife is from here before she moved to California. Now we get to be near her folks and I am safe from having to visit mine ;)

off and on

I am looking forward to it mostly, but now and again the notion that it will stick around for longer than a couple of weeks is a little daunting. It's gotta beat rain though, right?

Welcome! whereabouts were you in Cali?
I spend a good portion of my teen years down there. I enjoyed the snow when we moved back for about 5 minutes :D
Takes a bit of getting used to but there are worse places to be.

Santa Barbara

Unincorporated Santa Barbara county, just up the hill from Refugio State Beach. Mostly considered Goleta, which recently incorporated, as our "town". But no one recognizes Goleta so we mostly just say Santa Barbara.

Certainly are worse places than here. Even SB was getting hard to enjoy, spent all our time working, and never looking like we'd be able to afford a million dollar mortgage for the meanest of hovels.

Right! That whole cost of living thing down in that area kind of sucks.

Yeah, I always figured somewhere in the four corners kind of area or up the coast would be approachable.

Supposedly Van is stoopid expensive like SoCal now as well.

My dad was posted to El Segundo with Nato during the whole buildup of Navstar (aka GPS). We lived on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. It was nice but being there from 11 to 16 there is only so much amusement parks and the beach you can take :)

My parents loved going to Santa Barbara when we lived there. Nice short trip.

My wife was in Palos Verdes when her dad was working on Sats for NATO back when she was in high school.
