Lots of turbo diesel nissan patrols 4.2 litres, with mods they can put out gobs of power, just about the strongest front ends sold in a vehicle - but they still break them doing that stuff.
I've talked to the guy in australia with the comp cruiser in the second video, lots of mods on that truck and he gets about 300kms for a 90 litre tank of diesel. But it is set up for some serious events.
The only obstacle to having an event like that here is finding enough guys with capable vehicles to participate. They get all the good stuff over seas

The funny thing about their trails is that they don't build them, they just mark out a course and you drive it until it looks like a trail I understand the land issue though.
On the capable vehicle issue, most of the vehicles running the events overseas have to be lic and registered for road use as you have to drive from one event to the other - no trailering. You might be right that enough vehicles could be found for it but if you really look into what they are running then a whole new mindset of building would be needed.
Would be a great thing to have though, maybe I'll get more serious about it when the kids are in university
