Hi Guys, I just ran the Quinn trail today, seems that someone has began marking trees for cutting/logging, anyone hear when they are going to start? That will bugger that area up for wheeling.

It'll soften the ground up enough that one guy with a sami will put in deep enough rutts you'd think grave digger was in there.

Actually, if you see the roads the MNR has been putting in you would be able to pull a 53 foot trailer into the quinns.

ANy word on the status of these trails. Planning a trip up to Ompah the end of the month. Just curious what shape they may be in. Has anyone run this section lately?

Louis,
Thanks for the info. I just saw your post about logging and it concerned me a little. Glad to hear the trails are in good shape.

I was in the frontdoor upto the bridge 2 weeks ago and didn't notice any logging on that end. this past weekend, I noticed marked trees alongside the mosque lake/grindstone trail.
also, the trails that once existed north of grindstone are now non existent due to logging now :(

So it sounds like the MNR is having a hay day in certain areas up there. Should be an interesting drive thought the bush.

It is weird that they are cutting when the market is so shitty, more of an exercise of forest management than pricing??

The worst part is that when the MNR does the logging they just shut the whole area down and gate it up - fricking rediculous. In quebec then open roads right up and allow everyone access.

With the amount of marking I saw around the quinns I imagine they might be working this fall/winter - but who knows for sure. One thing I do know is that all those roads we use up there are from the logging industry about 40-60 years ago - so maybe there will be some new wheeling spots out of this. There used to be a trail up past long bay to where crag lake is - but has long since grown in.

Good points. I just hope that they don't decide to start logging while we're up there!!! LOL

for the record, the MNR doesn't do the logging, private companies do. the MNR only regulate it. I for one am not concerned about the loggers, it's the mining prospects in the frontenac area to be concerned about. they can go anywhere and stake land without the MNR interfering. been reading more and more articles like this: http://www.minesandcommunities.org/article.php?a=3997

It's just plain disgusting that our government hasn't updated laws that are 140 years old when in that period our value system and our knowledge of the environment has changed so much. :pissed:

Ya I know that, that's the way it has always been, they tender it out or something like that - forest management type stuff. None the less it gets done.
