lets just say hypothetically someone was to roll up to the border in a .... 99 dodge diesel with a 8x12 flat deck and on that was a 4000lb buggy. would he have any problems at the border. and lets say there is no reg. or ins. on the buggy. and the truck and trailer dose not have yellow stickers either.
would this guy be asking for trouble?

For buggies with no registration/title/insurance you simply make up a serial number and declare it at the border before you cross (this is what Mike L. did).

The border patrol will not check for yellow stickers. But they will check your registration and plate number for the trailer. That's about it.

Or, for the buggy, stop at Canada Customs on your way out, they will place a customs sticker on the buggy and give you a green declaration card for it. Then when you come back, there is no question you went down with it.
The only thing Customs is worried about (when youu come back) is whether you bought it down there or not, the sticker from them proves you did not.

PS-Every one should be doing this for their expensive electronic goods (laptops, camera's), this way they don't think you bought it down there and they try to ding you for taxes.

You don't need the yellow safety stickers if you are using it for personal use. The boarder will not give you any problems unless your truck has business stickers or licenced in a company name.

Good info, I was wondering the yellow sticker situation myself. I think I may just finally get mine anyway. :D

Put a camper on the back of the truck and you won't need any stickers.

I think my wife would kill me if I added a camper to the list of "I reaaaaaaaaaally need this" :lmao: (what she doesn't know is a pop up for the trailer is on that list ;) )

Hmmmm....couple grand for a camper vs an extra $300 a year in sticker fees....at this time, I think I'll take the extra few hundred....

We go around in circles on this topic at least once a year. My understanding is that you NEED the stickers BUT arn't required to do the weigh in scales and daily journals when you are towing for personal use.

My question is then do you need to fill in the journals the rest of the time?

Technically yes if the truck is commercial.

Just gonna load the Buggy on the trailer and go :)

Gotta fix my front driveshaft though. Might just run the square one for now.

Gotta drop my tcase x-member down a bit to counter the DS bind I'm getting when the rear suspension droops. Other than that, I just gotta confirm I can get the time off, but I can't do that until next week after I get home.

What's the approximate mileage to RC from Ottawa?

On the camping note - do you have to book ahead of time, or is the plan simply to show up and take whatever's available?

650 KM.

We do not need to book in advance (and I don't think you can). Arriving on Thursday gives us our choice of spot. We are usually the only ones there. Maybe a couple of others.

Awesome - I should be able to confirm if I can get the time off work by next Friday - hopefully...

Well all but one of the parts I ordered and paid for are still sitting on the floor in the back room, (they short shipped me a part and decided to ship it directly to my home, but I haven't seen hide nor hair of it for two weeks and the tracking number I was given and just tried to check tonight is no good), the Samurai is buried under a mountain of junk, and there are a few other parts I should probably order but because I haven't got started I'm not sure what I might need. I don't officially start back to work till April 6th but I'll be gone golfing in Myrtle Beach for a week between now and then and I have to do two jobs next week so my free time is running out quickly. As usual I will be scrambling at the last minute to bolt and weld shit on and most likely I won't get everything done I want to. Essentially what I'm saying is no change from any other year......but I'll still lead the group down there, wheel the HELL outta the Zuk and have a blast doing it!!

It kills me to say this, but I'm out :( With my upcoming move, there is a lot of background activity going on, and unfortunately, wheeling in far off places is at the bottom of that list. Oh well, maybe I can meet you guys there next year, and *hopefully* I can make the Moab trip in the fall.

Shitty...
