If you are looking at an auto locker for the rear, hope you don't drive it in the winter!!

Installed a winch to get myself out of the ditch easier this winter.

Pierre,

I drove Subarus for 10 years and an Impulse RS4 AWD (and drove the living fawk out of them in the winter) before driving the XJ .

I installed an auto locker in the XJ which is fantastic on the trails, but sucked in the winter.

You'll end up having to drive light on the throttle ALL THE TIME, backing off as soon as it engages when you didn't want it too.

I'm a pretty good driver, and after two winters, I had enough of having to drive like an old lady on slippery roads, having my ass end swing out on very little throttle.

Save up for a selectable locker.

I love my selectable!! no worries on HAVING to adapt. But it's there when you need it!
If I was to put a locker in that is what I would do. No need to adapt.
Maybe I should have put it differently like, expect to have to change your driving style with an auto locker in winter

hey thanks everyone for the comments . I think i will wait for the real deal and get a selectable.
Now any comments as to what selectable to get ,I like the electrique or like John the OX. I like these 2 because I really would rather not have to run air .

Of course if the budget permits I would ALWAYS recommend a selectable type locker.
But the subject didn't start that way but rather looked like a "cheaper" minded locker was the target price.
Yukon Gear has the Zip Locker (air) available for most applications and it's right around the $800 mark.

Edit: Valley Dad, the benefit of running air is you can have an appropriate sized compressor that will allow you to air up after a day of trails.
OX's are ok but I hate the cable coming out of the front cover that's in harms way.....

Ive driven an auto locked jeep in the snow and I didn't find it that bad. I know lots of people who do. I say auto lock the rear and air lock the front!

It never occurred to me to drive my locked and lifted off-road truck aggressively on the street. That's not asking for trouble at all. If you want to be a ricer, get a Honda. Lol

I love having my Detroit locker last winter in my blazer. It was lots of fun and never had a problem.

lol thanks guys...love everyone's point of view on things and the tip on the chines food.
I guess the reason behing the air is cause I am already setup for electric I got a big converter and an electric impact and an electric compressor , but all in all those are things I had before hand. So it was convenient to re use them.
I see the whole ARB on board air thing being the cats ass.And I always did like the OX because they are bulletproof .
I guess price will pretty much say who gets what in the end.
Thanks again for your thoughts.
I still don't understand the chinese connection...lol

Me neither, I picked up some bad habits from some Scandinavians that took me a while to get rid of. :flipoff:

Seriously though, the Lock-rite I put in was DAMNED sensitive. Would come on with barely any kind of slippage. I.e. it worked perfectly. My issue may have been the tires: mud terrains, no siping, big lugs. Not friendly in slushy, icy roads to begin with.

Now with two new traffic circles on Trim road, I'm gonna be having me some fun this winter. Go around a few times before exiting, yo!

when in doubt Cochise I used to keep it pinned and things have a way of sorting things out , with very little steering wheel input.
My old ford had more sideways miles on it than anything. lol

Yukon Gear also offers the Yukon Extended Service (Y.E.S.) warranty that is a no questions asked lifetime warranty for 1 replacement. The "Y.E.S." Warranty can be re-purchased if it's used.
It's an additional $50 at the time of purchase!
