The shop in Quebec that prepped the foresty division service trucks is :

http://www.ergonotek.com/

- click on the "camion service mecanique" link -
They switched to Fords because Dodge was taking too long to deliver their trucks.

(It was a nice truck to work in, all enclosed, heated and lit... great for winter in the Mountains
or the Rainy Season in Vancouver...)

I spoke with Andre when I was having problems with the on board welder -
He was pretty good to talk to, despite my limited french and his limited english :lmao:

The big Internationals they prefer in the Ontario area have a different set up,
(Traditional tranny PTO's driving hydraulic pumps for the crane and air comp.)
If the Northern Ontario mechanic wanders down from Timmins this summer I'll get some pix from under his hood...

It's not a matter of being man enough to wheel a stick, it's a matter of being man enough to admit that an auto is superior. :D:stir:

Bringing his back up... I may have a real use for something like this now... thinking about something to run a sprayer, light duty implements (post hole auger, trencher), etc...

Manual transmissions... Sitting and idling for extended periods I don't needed the extra heat from an auto. I'm not certain the resultant machine would see much more off-road than trail riding.

Is there anything out there that is half ton scaled with PTO ports? None of the NV35x0 transmissions had PTO ports, right? Older stuff? Preferably something that cheaply bolts to a Jeep 4.0. Doesn't have to be 5 speed.

If I go the Dana 18 route I'd need to get a new offset rear axle. Not the end of he world but I have enough decent centred axles lying around already.

I haven't written off hydraulics, just want to investgate everything.

The downfall that I have thought about with a transmission mounted pto is that you need to vary engine rpm to get more revs out of pto unit. Transfer case mounted like a Dana 18 style gives you the ability to use transmission gears to get pto revs. It would depend on what type of implements you are planning on using I suppose. Post hole auger I would think would be better through tcase. Run tcase in N and have the transmission gears to get the required rpms without varying throttle that much. Downfall I can see would be "traveling" implements not so much a sprayer but say a mower or such thing. To vary pto rpms and match ground speed maybe harder with a tcase mounted pto. Then again I could be way over thinking this. I have been accused of that more than once. I have Dana 18, pto and Toyota offset diffs if you want to go that route.

Ok so I went back and read the whole topic and realized that you are looking for drivers drop. Was there a Dana 18 drivers? To answer another question I am running a 52 m38 with Dana 18 and a centered Dana 44. High speed drive shaft wobble does not exist, surprisingly. Drive shaft is off about equal in both planes, kinda scary but it works.

Questions abound in topics like this......are the bolt patterns on a 4L the same as the motors they replaced? Ie 232 and 258? If so easy to find a bell housing from one of those to bolt to a manual and Dana 18 or 20. just a thought. I have two bell housings here if you wanted to check.

I definitely need to figure out he PTO requirements. What you were saying about the speeds available and the ranges gives a lot of food for thought.

Supposedly I can use a Ford or Jeep T18 with the T150 bellhousing I have on my CJ7 carcass. The 4.0 is the same bolt pattern - all the originally AMC engines have the same bolt pattern.

The PTO on the T18 is passenger side... I don't know if I would have the clearance for drivetrain on that side of the Jeep. Maybe if I had the PTO drive a hydraulic pump.

Reading online last nighthe Jeep T18 is harder to source rebuild parts for compared to the Ford. I don't know if that is BS or not.

Novak makes an adapter for NV231 to T18 for $520. If I don't have to spend that and just bolt up my Dana 20 that would be ideal.

Need to mock up I guess and see what clearance I have on the passenger side.

The Trans I have is a T18 or T19, I don't remember exactly.
It has a PTO and hydraulic pump.

Seems like they adapt the ford small block bell housing.
I believe I have one of those.

I've been nattering back and forth with the owner, the automatic setup is more or less done. They are going to work on the setup for the T18 and NP435 next. By the time I get to it the parts should be available.
