We will be in the ompah/calabogie area from May 22-24th. Was just curious if anyone would be intersted in showing us around. I'm sure we could help you out with your beer fund or trail maintenance in exchange for some guidance. We went in september to the quinn trail on atv's and found loads of atv trails but we're not so sure about truck trails that are stock friendly/challenging. There will be 4 trucks in total....Blazer, Colarado,Tahoe, and my Xterra. We're not rookies or afraid to get...

Most of the trails are not suitable for the above mentioned vehicles, no matter that you cranked the torsion bars.

maybe the logging or access roads to the quinn would be sufficient for some light offroading (at least for the gmc's)

Oh we did but it wasn't enough of a challenge so we decided to go back to stock or near stock.

And those of us that didn't start with the tube frame & rockwells started with wood frame and horses......... :stir:

Hey dude
Forget what these guys say. I've been to ompah thru to calabogie plenty of times in the last year there is loads of fun there. Run the skidoo trails and try some hydro lines as they shoot off they are more challenging. Its a great place to run your rig. I've seen stock Colorado go thru and have a blast.

Be careful the opp are in there as are trail guys who may ask you to buy a trail pass but from what I hear that never happens.

Get a map at the ompah store for the K&P snowmobile trails. Good camping too!

got any pics or way points to these trailheads?, I've explored every nook and cranny on arcol rd, hydro lane, norcan lake rd. mountain rd and vennacher and haven't found much worth getting out to lock the hubs for aside from the known OVO trails.

there's a couple, but very few, if any know of them, and no collie would ever make it or fit through

aside from what you heard bout trail cops and OPP they are there and do their rounds regularily. keep some money on hand just in case if you do run into the MnR and avoid alcohol and make sure to have registration/ins. the same rules apply to the trails as they do to the streets.

There are lots of logging road and stuff to play around on in Calabogie if you just want to have a little fun with your DD. My buddies and I do Camp tours from Griffith through to the Dam in Calabogie. Always getting the trucks dirty, plenty of fishing and lots of good camping. We stop and hit the trout lakes all the way across. I have never seen the cops or MNR up there in the Jeep or on the bike. Just follow the power lines and you'll find something to have some fun in.

it's all experience! i wouldn't assume it! I got off lucky the first time, parked at the trailhead of the frontdoor with no insurance. cops made me tow my truck off the trail. ever since, I see OPP on the trail for operation SAVE . not all that often but now and again. everytime I do see em they stop me until my last encounter with a young rookie. with no surprise he approached me telling me my truck is lifted too much and can't be legal. sure enough 5 minutes later the 'usual' OPP guy comes round and tells him to lay off on me. let me through with a wave. seen them once after since and they never pulled me over. that was just this past summer.

as for trail passes, I don't bother buying em, unless I get stopped by the MnR on the trail. happened only once. see them now and then in plevna at north of 7. OPP haven't ever asked me bout trail passes. guess they're only there to check for insurance and alcohol

they're out there, but the likeliness of bumping into them are say 1 in 50. assume nothing!!!

if your talking bout E 104, and E 104A (which is part of arcol rd), i did the whole thing all the way to E 102 in 2hi. including the shale pit shortcut to summit lake and southwest door to hydro lane. beautiful scenery but not anything worthwhile for wheeling. seems like more of a nature walk for trucks IMO. the most damage I can see are some ontario pinstripes if any.

lavant trail and lavant station hydro line would seem like a challenging stocker run

it isn't, he was being a smart ass with me. when he got off his quad, he looked underneath quickly, and began to argue with me that it looked unsafe. he then proceeded that it didn't come like that from the factory, and blah blah blah. no he didn't say it was illegal, sorry bout that but he definitely implied it. as young as I look, I'm sure he saw it as an opportunity to speak down on to me and challenge this young whipper snapper, I'm used to it and get quite pissed off bout it, other times, I play it along to see where it goes.

Some of the older guy's I'm sure can relate to that statement. :lmao: Anyway....I think I'll just drag my atv up instead. Make things alot easier and I won't have to take my wife on the trail that way. I wish I didn't live so damn far away or I'd show up for the spring run and follow you guy's with real trail rigs. :beer:
