Till Valhalla!
this could potentially be one of the most technical and impressive rigs in the club.

Everyone has 2 cents, so I will give you 10.
I will try to be encouraging while discouraging at the same time.
Why not a Toureg?
Anyone telling you not to bring a Toureg out on the trails is just trying to help you prevent damaging your vehicle. I will echo that. If you can't stomach the thought of denting in your stock side steps, denting your bumper, putting a dent in the rear quarter panel because you didn't see the tree you backed into, damaged your roof line because you leaned the truck against a tree in an off camber spot, or scratches down the length of the body because you drove too close to the brush (on some trails this is unavoidable), then choose your trails wisely. Even if you *think* are ok with this, make sure your significant other is. I have done all these things on local trails. If you would like to see some of the body damage to my jeep TJ sometime, you are welcome to come over and and I will happily show you how and where I got each battle scar.
Why a Toureg?
It has 4x4. It will be able to go over some rocks. Bring it on out and see what it can do. Personally, I would suggest only taking this truck on Burntlands or the Gorge so that you can get out, have some fun, and see what the vehicle can do without risking too much damage. Maybe Lavant. Upper darling too.
Another option we always have is the ride along. If a trail is not deemed suitable for your vehicle, you can always ride with someone else to get a sense of how NOT like a fire road or construction site some of our trails are. Additionally, there are enough club members not running local trails or are currently building that if poked and prodded enough could come out to drive with you to offer advice and personal spotting.
John, perhaps you have been too far removed from OVO trail runs to see where the underlying concern is coming from, even if it is shaded in sarcasm. Every time I see one of these types of vehicles out on a trail run, something happens and we usually do not see the truck return. Be it a stock JK, FJ, H3, Cherokee, or whatever. If the first run results in body damage due to in-experienced drivers on a technical trail, they are unlikely to return.
Since you also threw it out there, I will bite on your OJC and friends comment. From a bystanders perspective, if you had organized suzican as suzican and friends, it probably would have been a successful event this year. If you open OJC to non-jeep vehicles, perhaps the club will grow and not be on the brink of extinction again.

Brad, nice post as well. I just think back to when I wasn't a member of a club and first tried to join ovo. At the time I was driving a Zuk and the club was full off full sized trucks and huge lifted Jeeps. It was intimidating and I felt at they time that I was not wanted. I understand all the comments about damage and pin stripping. I am all for that. It is just the remarks elswhere that would drive any newbie away for not feeliing wanted. Maybe I care too much about the club in my own way ( but I guess I shouldn't) . We have seen it many times with the Forester guy or OttawaXJ or other Jeep or Club BS. I just think that in a public forum there should be more PC if you are trying to promote a club and leave the joking to the private section. I am just voicing my embarassment as an outsider looking in. Persanally I don't think Carp would have been a good first choice of trails, and would have sent him to the Gorge or Burntlands where there are bybasses. If you want the club to be only hard core, promote it as such. But if you want to grow, then you have to baby the new guys, and make them feel wanted. I'm not talking about holding thier hand or giving them a fawking gold star, but at least make them feel welcome!!
My .02
You can always ride shotgun. I just need to learn the trails. By next spring I will be rolling on 35s and should be doing the mudholes effortlessly.I have no problem leading burntlands and dwyer hill. But my trucks been broke since june.
Gee I wonder why? Maybe the same reason I haven't wheeled with this club in 4 years!! Ego and arrogance! enjoy your bed.
