whats the minimum size winch to use?
there is a 2000lb one at Canadian Tire right now for $99. Useless???

the standard Formula for figuring out the size winch that is needed for your particular vehicle is to take the laden weight ( not the curb weight ) examples are if you regulary take multi day trips and have your cargo area filled take this into account when you are determining the weight of your vehicle and multiply this by 1 1/2 times and this will give you a minimum requirement needed. This is the Standard but their are other factors to consider with todays Winches their is very little difference in the actual size between 8k to 12k models and even the weight difference is not really a big factor (the biggest percentage of weight will be from a 8 k 5 1/6" line to a 9500k + 3/8 " line. ) It would be a bit of a let down to get a Winch that meets the minimum requirement only to have that one situation where a little more power makes the difference from stalling the motor and pulling yourself free. At least this is my opinion.
