on the other hand I've seen guys run Quinn and didn't realize there rig was open /open till we got back out and were airing up.
Some guys just know when to go and when to no go...

Then I doubt it was pinion pass (which is where they are going) and it wasn't wet.

It was Pinion Pass, however it was very, very dry. A couple of open/open guys made it up with a bit of driving. I agree it is a whole different ball game when wet.

All right I am going to apologize for the flippant remark about it probably wasn't Pinion Pass but I made it because if you watch somebody go up there with open/open it is apparent or you aren't watching properly. When only one wheel spins when trying to climb over rocks you usually ask them if they are locked to make sure something is not wrong. The only way I see you don't see that is that they hit it at the bottom and bounced all the way up. There is that breakage thing. FYI I have done all of Quinn with a bad R&P that I found out not long before PP and so doing it I could not put much pressure on the rear without skipping a tooth and since I wanted to drive out I spent 97% of the trail in front wheel drive. PP required very aggressive bumps and lots of exact placement and luckily it was dry otherwise I would have turned around and went back or winched myself.

But you know what that has nothing to do with this thread as when somebody volunteers to lead a run it is generally not a democracy but instead a benevolent dictatorship and as such the leaders get to choose what kind of run they want to lead. It is not a slight against anybody or what their truck maybe capable of or not "allowing" them but instead for reasons that I explained earlier in the thread. I don't even care about the run as I will be in Vermont riding a BMW motorcycle in the mountains. :flipoff:

Anybody is welcome to lead as many open/open's through PP as they can but Mitko has chosen not to.

Again - well said. I cant' said it better (neither so polite :flipoff:). I've done Quinn many times, with many different vehicles, with open or locked diffs, with tires rangeing from bold 31s to brande new TSLs... and yes its doable... but it's not always fun. Thats why - nothing personal but I would like to lead this weekwend a group of friends I know and have fun.
I will know about the spare seat tomorrow too - depend if SHE comes with me or not.

Well for those that aren't "allowed" to run the Quinn on Saturday , the OJC will be running the Gorge on Sunday. meeting at the usual spot for 10:00. Stock friendy, no need for lockers!
You are actually allowed and more than welcome...but I know also that you preffer to run Gorge with your OJC mr. vice :flipoff:.

Agreed 100%. Sorry if I made it sound like I was questioning the run or the trail leader's criteria. I wasn't. Just pointing out that under certain conditions, its possible to make PP with open diffs, and at other times it's not.

I understood ya, Mitko. Sorry about the derail, wasn't my intent at all. I wasn't covertly questioning your wishes, I knew where you were coming from.

Question for y'all:

Would it be OK (or not) to have a second group of smaller trucks for the day, if anyone was interested?

I'm thinking the second group of smaller trucks would leave AFTER Mitko's group (since the first group will be faster).

3-5 trucks MAX, if there's interest, would be the limit. If we get stuck and fawked, we'd get ourselves squared away without holding up the first group.

The criteria would be the same: at least 33" tires, tow points (MANDATORY), winch (desirable), and a locker. (Would make an exception for someone without a locker who has previously completed the trail, including Pinion Pass).

If it's a bad idea, lemme know.

Otherwise: any interest out there for this?

I'm Out - Spent an hour fixing the brakes on the trailer, loaded the buggy, took it down the road to test the brakes and blew a brake line on the Fawking Yukon. :( Anybody want to buy a Yukon for parts? Good running Vortec 5.3 and Good 32" tires? :)
