Another tip: if one is in no need to replace the wheel bearing (hub assembly) there is no real need to remove the axle nut . The axle will come out with the hub assembly and the U-joint still can be changed. This in case one is in the middle of nowhere, have no big socket or is in a rush.
Just saying.

Works, I did this today on my TJ to change the u-joint. Took 45 minutes for the whole job (one side)

Thanks for the tip Mitko, I haven't worked on a factory 30 or 44 in a while and I forget these things.

Is this the same brother that made you swap his engine? Tell him he owes me for borrowing the hoist and jack and bring him over to do some wrenching ;)

I have 12 point sockets and I should still have lots of large sockets, one of them should fit.

Thats the one.
And great tip mitko. Works great too.

Thanks Richard, Adrian and Matt for taking time out of your weekend to help a fellow 4x4er..... I really learned allot. I had a great time. Some of it was pretty straight forward and do-able with basic tools and knowledge but there were other parts that I would have never thought of and not have had the proper tools.... So I thank you all especially Richard for offering up your garage and tools to get at least one side done. Took a little longer then we all anticipated......We can make arrangements later on in the next few weeks to maybe tackle the other side if your all game. Lets try and have a few more bodies come out. More the merrier.....

And just a heads up... Even though only the one side was completed (Upper and Lower ball joints and u-joint) I have noticed a HUGE difference with the front end wobble. It seems to have really subsided. Still a tiny bit there but not like it was before. So doing the other side will more than likely remove the wobble in its entirety.

Next time lets try for a Saturday early and then like I offered previously, diner is on me. My treat. Its the least I can do....

So a huge thank you to all.

Danny

Sounds like it was more fun than drywall sanding and paint prep at home.

What issues did you run into?

The PA 'Universal Ball Joint' tool wasn't, we used a piece of square tubing to fit over the round ball joint, and a 1/4" plate as a spacer since the surfaces of the C aren't all parallel. Otherwise it went pretty smooth, just finished the first side a little too late to attempt the other on a Sunday.
