So as you can see typical rear CJ/YJ/TJ rear body mount rot:
So I pried the rear up trying to get enough space to just build new "boxes" to for the mounts, no luck as the body had sagged so that the line was below the top of the mounts. :banghead:
Well I said I guess since I had plans that if she was going to drive this in the winter that I was going to refinish the whole frame in November anyway so it was no time like the present to undo those body mounts. Those of you that are familiar with this line of heeps know about how the engineers in all their wisdom decided to cover the tops of the mounts under sheet metal to "protect" them from corrosion which just leaves you with rusted bolts that snap off when you try to remove them. Now I have on several occasions tried to move the bolts with a johnson bar and all they felt like were bolts that were about about to break so I drilled holes roughly above each body mount (read not that close) and then soaked them with Liquid Wrench and tapped the bolt heads with a hammer which btw is per instructions on the can and 4 of them undid very nice. The 2 at the front that sit totally unprotected on a plate seemingly designed to catch dirt and salt ended up spinning the mounts out of the rusty plate. Oh well not hard to deal with using the plasma.
Then I proceeded to pry the body up to wedge something inbetween, now I did not pry that hard but when I was looking at the back trying to figure out why it didn't seem to be moving much I dent my rockers and no I wasn't putting the full force on the rockers as I had a pry bar wedged between the body sub-frame and the frame, this was just residual force. No wonder "Jeep guys" are worried about their rockers, I have put a jack-all on my rockers on the XJ when it had them and never did that much damage.
issed:
So after grabbing the nearest big wrench and wrestling with myself to keep from smashing it into my forehead a few times to calm down I find that apparently there are 2 more body mounts on the cross member above the fuel tank and greeaat one of them is actually pushed through the floor so I can't drill there. Screw it, it's Miller and plasma time.
Oh and I have noticed that like a dog the nasty she has decided to piss on my floor (ps box) to show me her displeasure.
Anyway now I have room to rebuild the rear:
And on another positive note Connie steam cleaned the seats and they look pretty good.
