Is it cheaper to just buy a used one then rebuild yours Matt?

Dwayne

Yeah, i have seen these trannys as cheap as $100 on jeepkings. I just don't want to drive to Windsor to get one. It is the same tranny in most of the YJ's, thats why they are so cheap.
I plan on putting in a used one and rebuilding mine latter.

If you can get one for 100.00 have them empty the oil, wrap it in 6mil garbag bags and put it on the Greyhound to ottawa. Should be about 40-50.00.

:beer:

I didn't know you could do that. Thanks John. I think he sold it but the AX-15 is pretty abundent on jeepkings

You might want to look at the NV3550. I far as I know its the same size and splines as the AX-15. Might cost more but its stronger.

Yeah, they bolt right in but i don't have the funds for that right now and they are harder to come by.

Ok, so i have done allot more reasearch and have found that my tranny in my jeep is actually an NV3550. They started putting them in the TJ's in 2000.

My problem is it grinds going into second and sometimes third and from third to second. Also in the tranny it sounds like metal jinlging around.
So naturaly i thought it was the synchros. Now i have read on pirates that allot of people have this from brand new and that it is normal... I think this is wierd.

I think this is wierd so I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this or knows anything.

Thanks:beer:

when changing the trany oil, inspect it:
if it has golden/brass particles (golden colored) in it, this is a sign of worned sinchros;
if the oil is mostly metal colored - worned bearings;
chunks - you know what it is. :)

Haha you have a more expensive tranny.

Seriously though, a lot of people have posted on JF about the NV3550 and the Royal Purple Synchromax is probably the highest recommended to get more so than the Redline. I think second and third was Amsoil and Pennzoil Synchromesh.

On a side note the Redline MT-90 is recommended for the AX-15.

That may explain why you couldn't find the drain on my transmission yesterday :lmao:

Yeah, that was the first thing i checked for. I replaced it as soon as i got the jeep and it was pretty silver. lt has been clean ever since so im hoping it was just moisture but i'm not betting on it. I have replaced it at least 3 times in the last year just to keep it fresh and once because i filled it with water (drove it 2kms home and changed it right away)

LOL!! Yes mine is more expensive, but stronger and a lower first gear! Yeah, that explains why my dain plug isn't in the same location as yours.:flipoff:
So i guess this is a really common problem with the NV 3550. I guess i will try changing the oil with royal purple.

Thanks guys. :beer::beer:

Well, i changed the fluid and this time there was some synchro filings. So i'm gunna rebuild it. Does anyone have or has access to a repair manual for a NV 3550? Or a Repair manual to a 2000-2006 Wrangler? I can't seem to find any on the web.

Thanks Matt

I decided to buy a used tranny and rebuild mine later. I found one and will be picking it up next weekend in Kaladar. I will be doing the swap in a couple weekends. I was wondering if i could borrow somones floor jack or a floor tranny jack for a weekend.
