after going through 2 ring and pinions in my rear diff for 2013 ( 529's) I've decided to move down a bit to see if these will hold up.
anyway if you have a set you wouldn't mind parting with let me know.
thanks

35" tires
22re with dual cases.
my 4runner ar the sclaes tipped 2500kg
with me and my gear.
in both instances the ring gear teeth held up
but the pinion teeth either blistered or cracked

1st one came with the diffs I got ( I never set these up)
2nd one got used ( I helped the person set these up)
3rd one that's in now brand new precision gear. ( my first time setting up a set)

we'll see how 2014 turns out

Were you running a crush sleeve or a solid spacer? I've seen lots of failures with a crushsleeve...

sorry, i must of had a seniors moment.
i am intrested if the price is right and
unfortunatly i need to hold on the the 529 in my
truck just in case it does not work out with the 488's.
this truck is literally driven every day of the week as well as offroad
so i can appricate your need for a spare too.
thanks.

I ran a 4:10 V6 third in my Buggy behind a 350 hp V8 and never broke it. V6 thirds are a direct drop in. I could not keep gears in the front regular 4cyl third.

Could it be that the pinion wasn't deep enough into the ring gear, putting uneven stress on the teeth of the pinion?

don't have any experience in this stuff so I just don't know.
as for the second pic. I seen the exact defect if you want to call it that
on a 488 gear set just today as a matter of fact. it was a trail gear ring and pinion.

I've hear you have to put a lot of load on the carrier bearings to keep them tight. Who setup the diff?
