Here is the the general idea of what it going to look like, but with more complex bends on all the rest of the tubes. I like the pain and misery that they add to the build.

And no Wilson the A-pillar is not going to sit that far in front of the windshield, it was just a piece I had lying around.

Is that B pillar really doing anything with that bend in it 1/3 of the way up? Won't it just collapse when it is actually needed?

I think if he's staying with the cherokee "lines" then once it's tied into the C pillar (that will angle towards the front) it will create a sort of triangulated box.

We talked about this last night. I think he is going to have a vertical support from that bend and then do a full X. That should be plenty strong.

Yes I would say it is now a buggy, actually my current folder on photobucket says "Roof off because it's a buggy". No plans on bigger tires or axles, I just want to get this finished and wheel this year.

Why am I getting blamed for that??? How 'bout why isn't the rig sitting straight & level to make sure you don't build a twist into the chassis?

I'm still trying to figure out why you (anyone for that matter) would take a unibody vehicle, plate the shit out of it to get a, uh, frame, then cut off the unibody???

Here are some pics of how you take the top off the frame rail. First grind away the edges until you get basically rid of the spot welds. Then have at 'er with a crowbar.

Oh sorry I meant to post this digital angle finder last week when they were on sale at 50% off at CTC for $50. I bought one in November or so at the same price, you have to watch as they don't list it in the flyer, they just say levels etc on sale.

Trimming of the ends of the B-Pillar to match the slider top.

Different ways I have come up to with to hold "that wascally tube" in place while working by myself.

Oh yeah and I am actually getting somewhere.

I ended up cutting into the side of the existing A-pillar to make lines work out which is not really a big deal as I had already cut the bottom of it away to sink my sliders in.

One A-pillar done and the other one almost done but it needs tweaking to line it up. This matching body lines sucks especially as I am eventually going to (almost did 3 times this weekend but stayed focussed) cut the windshield off as I want to make it removable/fold down and that is why I worked so hard to put these lines where I will be able to achieve this.

I need to build door bars (beside seat bars whatever they are), Adrian told me for comp they have to be closed to a certain height for competition though that is not in my plans right now. What I am wondering is what do you like/dislike about your own bars? Adrians is farther forward for his feet to slide in. What is the required (recommended) height and does anybody recommend at least some sort of low point for ease of entry.

For mine, I plan to have the door bar just hold my hip in. That will permit me to get my fat ass up over it. LoL Jamie's Samurai is way too tight for me to get in to with the door bar where it is. My feet will be held in by the footwell itself.

Well days of screwing around trying to make 1/4" differences go away side to side netted me nothing really but aggravation. I am pretty stubborn even though both Scott and Connie kept pointing out my truck was crooked :banghead: I still persevered on like the kind of "special" retard that I am and yet I kept just ending up out somewhere else so if you see my rig on the trail don't point out those 1/4"'s or I will clock you :flipoff:

Anyway some pics of notching for those that may have never seen it happen before:

Oh for those of you didn't see it at the meeting this is the DOM less 5 sticks Marek already took and 1 I used. Plus there is almost 200' of CREW still out on the trailer.

In the end it doesn't look like I did anything since the last pic (it is mostly welded in place now and there is another side there too) ......but look I think I have found the location for the rear seats and just like a fancy high end suv the rear passengers are up a bit higher for a better view.....or maybe that is in a bus ......whatever :lmao:

As for the door bars i made mine pretty high. I went from my shoulder to the bottom of th a pillar. Its harder to get into but would protect your body alot more in roll. Last year i remember Ron saying he hit his shoulder on a roll. He had no protection and being strapped in he couldn't move, that was my concern with a low shoulder bar .

Now hurry up Sring Fever is coming up!
