I fully agree with the depandability and reliability of a sas and do agree with the decision.

Glad that ifs won't go to waist!

Need Toyota solid axle front brake calipers, working or cores. I've got axles but no front brakes... Also if anyone has unused toyota axle rebuild parts or parts for 22r engine, or w56 trans that they wanna get rid of please let me know.

Well the little kick is dead in the driveway until the swap is ready. Last week I broke a timing belt, replaced it, ran fine. On Friday, which was a cold morning, it started and shortly after died. After checking and tinkering with all the ignition system I found no issues. I managed to make it run again by cranking the timing to the absolute max, but even then would idle rough and show a mere 2 degrees advance, but it would jump to twelve and then down then up then down. So thought for sure that the fresh belt may have just jumped a tooth on the cam gear. So I tore it all appart planning to reset the belt and be up and running. But I found this.

DAMN IT!!

You, give up??? We're not talking 500hp here, weld the gear back together, file the end of the cam flat and round, pound a new chunk of cold rolled into the cam with a glob of JB, a dab of red loc-tite between the cam and gear, and tighten her down!
You can do it! (read like the guy from Water Boy)

I love this forum in the last 2 days I've been offered 3 motors to swap in and I'm grateful for that.

Junkpile, you're right I could "make it run" but I'm not gonna tell my wife that. She was kind enough to let me commute with our truck, and she is giving me shop time to expedit my engine, and axle swap. Lol

I could swap a motor in or swap my spare head in (which I'll do once it comes out) but why waste precious shop time on an engine that I'm taking out ASAP anyways? I was also offered a loaner car today from a friend and it is good timing for him as his drive way isn't big enough for his vehicles and the ever growing snow bank....

I have to type up an update with some pics in the morning so stay tuned.

So I started my engine rebuild Monday night, so far I've got crank and pistons in, really taking my time though, learning as I go.

I didn't have proper piston ring sleeves

I also received a big order from Summit and TMR yesterday.

Got 12 gallon fuel cell, inline pump, fuel reg, front and rear wheel bearings for my axles as well as a knuckle rebuild kit. Bushings and tabs from TMR, I'd normally make my own but the time line for all this work is limited and TMR has great pieces and next day delivery.Stay tuned

Long time no update, I'm still alive and now my kick is too!!! It made its maiden voyage out of the shop yesterday and I'm happy to say the to-do list for finishing is getting very short!!! 22r has loads of power but I'm suffering some vacuum leaks at the carb adapter so I'll sort that out soon enough. Big fancy distributor is friggin sweet, more spark then I need. I'm not sure I'll use low low as often as I thought but I haven't hit any thing more difficult then my ditch yet. Need a smaller alt pulley to bring my idle voltage up. A bunch of break in this week, then bolt, bearing, joint, diff check, and oil change this weekend, then drive it full time again!!! Pics when I can! check my wanted ad I have a few little items I need pretty badly.

got a partly disassembled Tranny from Nick at a fair price and thought I had struck gold. Got home and finished assembling it only to find out that it didn't shift. So I tore into it and found a bunch of broken C-clip chunks jamming up the syncros. Likely caused by prying on the rear half of the trans with the detent balls still in place. I cleaned it out and threw it back together and boom it shifts. Then I installed it. It was a G52 not a W56 so I had to rework the tunnel and all my shifters... In and done late saturday (midnight) then test drove it for an hour hahaha. Sunday we made the first long drive from home to the Gorge had it up to 120 on less then straight road and it handled great and had great big gobs of power I think it's still running too rich. But the pavement test was a pass with flying colours. Then we hit the gravel, that was the real test. Previously my fat tires, light weight, and short wheel base made gravel kind of loose, and even uncomfortable for my passengers. But the additional weight and wheel base made it quite nice to drive even at speed on fresh gravel. Even better then that was the fact that I had power to climb and wind my way into the trail without all the down shifting and up shifting, just in third and hammer down lol. On the trail it was unbelievable low range was plenty with the torque the rebuilt engine produced, and I tried and conquered every obstacle at the beginning of the gorge. But when I decided to shift into LOW LOW I was shocked. It took nothing more then steering and just enough gas to keep the carb happy and up it went. Very happy with the gearing, but some habits die hard and at the first sign of tire slip due to my open diffs I went for wheel speed and the incredible torque and LOW LOW lead to a loud clunk after a rough bounce.... I broke the cross pin that holds the spider gears and shattered the spider gears as well. hahah

Pending rim and tire swap with my buddy. These are a true 33x12.5 and measure a full inch larger then my BFG 33x12.5. The Mickey Thompson rims offer a lot of width and eliminate some rub. The trade would be 5 Trxus on rims for 4 BFG a/t's. I like the stance a lot and fills my fenders back up.

I also set up my new fill neck so I can use a pump at the gas station again. Need to rework the bottom a bit and seal it but its was starting to rain and getting late.

I also rejetted my carb, and now the V8 carb is now a little closer to working right on the L4. Mileage and power increase but I'm still running too rich.

hmmmmm... I do like those rims, I guess you could always take the groover to the truxxus treads and open them up a bit

Ya, they are a pretty closed up tread, but as a DD tire they are great!!! I have a bit of grooving planned, but only if they fail to impress me.

I was thinking about doing a little write up about my power/drive train as its sort of unique. The engine build more specifically, as I'm sure toy doubler talk is a horse that has expired and doesn't need to beat. It is toyota 22r, DUI all in one disty, ford v8 carb, homemade header etc. Also should maybe do a write up about retro fitting a chevy universal wiring harness into import controls and electronics.

There is a lot of work I didn't really document because I was just trying to finish. but maybe now I'll get to that.
