Hehehe.... Yup, that is my dilemma.

Orange = shiny = less trail riding
OD = flat = more trails = less tendency to take to the market

We'll see.

Yeah, every time I do a small project like sand blast an axle I say never again. Then a few years pass and I do it again. Really, now, never again.

I keep waffling about colour on my YJ (I hate red). Half says make it US northern forest camo or steel blue like my XJ or Silverstone silver like my S. Lots of time to make that decision.

I put a "good" paint job on my old Sam. It got scratched up and stuff but I didn't regret it after the first few scratches. It still looked great from 20 feet and for a 4x4 that's about all you need.

Well... Today was a good day. I finally was ready and able to reconnect the drivetrain to the frame and button everything up. I had one heck of a time with the tranny to the engine. Fawk, i just couldn't get it to line up (Guess it does make a difference to have a tranny stand!!!). Then a note to all...... MAKE SURE you have the bottom splash plate correctly in place BEFORE you torque down the bolts securing the tranny to the engine. I learnt the hard way that this is required...

In any event, some photos of the results so far. Frame is completeley POR'ed, SYE is in place, everythings degreased sanded and/or repainted, all new gaskets and everythings connected back up. I had to grind off the rivnuts for the skid plate and insert new ones as the existings all spun loose. I then tack welded them in place so it should hold nicely. Next steps are to get the axles finished, then hook up the suspension and then get the wheels on!!

Thanks to Andrew for the TC oil pump. Fit like a glove. Just hope it works but i won't know that for a while yet :)

Thanks Richard for the clutch alignment tool Worked like a charm.

Factory fresh!

Did you blast the transmission and transfer case with walnut shells or something? Looks way too clean for a varsol and scrub brush treatment.

I thought of blasting them but i was just a bit too nervous about the abrasives getting into areas that i did not want it to. So, i worked with cleaning solvents, some good scrub brushes and then various sizes of wire wheels on a drill. It took some time but it all came off. I then just shot everything with high heat enamel paint.

Ahh, gotcha. I've spent hours and hours trying to polish up aluminum Suzuki parts (WTF was I on?!) and never got that nice a finish. A coat of paint makes all the difference.

Did you top coat the POR-15?

No on the POR top coat, but i did do 2 full coats or POR (Or, is that what you meant :) ). I actually really like the finish of POR once it fully cures. I nice glossy shine that dirt just wipes right off of. It's a summer only vehicle so am not too worried. I do know that it fades in sun however considering it's the frame, I am cool with it either way.

Yeah, it fades to a funky purple colour. I used a gallon on a friend's landscape trailer and she didn't want it top coated and it eventually got faded. I'd expect for a frame that will mostly have a coat of mud/dirt/schmutz it'll not be a big deal.

Had some good progress today. Got all the suspension in place and was able to hook up the pneu's. Very strange situation... My RE front track bar's frame side mount would not fit to the track bar mount on the frame. The bolt was just too big. I had to drill it out to 5/8" for it to fit. Strange that RE would do this as it is nowhere in the manuals.... In any event, i ended up fawking up the threads on the bolt and the nut. Was able to sawzall the bad threads but could not locate a 5/8" nut fine thread in my area so... Off to Ottawa Fasteners tomorrow after work.

Next will be bending all the brake lines and tighten everything up.

Loco

I'd wheel it
Wow! Looks awesome. So nice and clean. The pictures make me just want to touch it. 4x4 porno. LOL. Keep up the good work.

The cheesy factory steering looks out of place now. ;)
