So, I am finally doing my fuel system upgrade the way it should have been done in the first place. The Summitt pump I have is noisy as hell and the pickup in the fuel cell (or lack of one rather) keeps sucking air, so this is what I am doing.

Parts:

Fuel Line that is rated to be submersed in fuel (fawking expensive - $26/foot)

Airtex E8248 Pump:

NAPA Part #:

Walboro Fuel Pickup (Notice two in first picture - one with two outlets, one with only one)

AN -6 Bulkhead fitting:

Going to drill through the side of the fuel cell (hence the bulk head fitting) and plumb it like this:

Hard line will be used between the pickups, with the rubber line to connect pickup to hardline.

One pickup in each diagonal corner to always pick up the fuel - these pickups are designed that if they suck air, they close so only the one that has fuel will work and no air will be sucked in.

Don't forget the 1/2" nuts and wire ties to attach where the pickups are so they always flop to the fuel. Wait I went back and looked at your picture, hard lines? how you going to hold them in the tank? I had no problems with mine flopping around once I took the stupid foam out of the tank.

The one on the right will be held down by the fact that it is attached to the outlet, not sure what I am doing with the one on the left yet. Hoping the hard line will keep it in place but if it is an issue I might braze an aluminum tie-down in that area. I also took the foam out a while back, kept plugging up my fuel filter. Stupid stuff... There is a baffle in my tank in the top right where the fuel gauge sender is, hence the location of the pickups.

Presuming the picture shows the orientation with respect to the front of the buggy, I would think it would be okay - you'd want the left side pickup working in descents and off camber with the drivers lower, and, hardline or not, it should flop back to that side with gravity. Uphill or pass side down, the lower right will pick up fuel.

One more part needed - Teflon washers for bulk head fittings, should be submersible in fuel and seal properly:

Bulk head fitting installed: AN -6 requires a 9/16 hole

Red Loctite used:

Had to go in in three pieces then assemble in the cell:

I will have to weight down the far one.

I upgraded my Gallery2 install on my server so I can fix the issue with uploading full res images and it changed all my picture paths, Just had to go through 62 pages of build thread and update all my links. FAWK! At least I can upload full res pictures now and it re sizes fine again.

I've been thinking about this problem last year when I moved from Flickr to picasa... I have an idea for a project, remind me to bounce it off of you later.

Nice, I like it! Not the kind of design I was expecting though. The milk crate is a nice touch

Fill it full of the other dies, mandrels, etc and it is ballast weight for keeping the bender from tipping over from the weight of the tube sticking out of the end ;)
